“Literally, I would always watch Victoria’s Secret fashion shows on loop. I was obsessed with watching it and watching the people film. There was a time where I actually thought, Hey, let me just be a Victoria Secret Angel one day, But my father said absolutely not.”
Right before the show, during her rehearsal, Tyla told Harper’s Bazaar that she couldn’t wait. “Everything just gives me such nostalgic vibes, and it’s just super exciting that [the runway show has] been brought back.”
Tyla, like many women, has early memories of the brand’s namesake runway show. She lists Justin Bieber and Rihanna’s performances as some of her favorite moments. Of course, she has a favorite angel or two as well. “Obviously I’m gonna say Candice [Swanepoel] because she’s South African! But I also love Jasmine [Tookes]. I also loved a lot of the Christmas collections and all the different wings—all of that is something that I will always remember.” She tells Harper’s Bazaar.

According to the interview, The nostalgia factor made it easy for Tyla to say yes to participating in the brand’s televised comeback. That and being a part of a history-making, all-women musical lineup that includes Cher and reigning K-pop queen Lisa.
“We created something that would tie in with the show, something that would be nice for me to perform in. It’s very glitzy and it’s kind of different to what I’m used to,” she explains. “But I really like it. It’s something different and really elevated for me.”

The Victoria’s Secret runway show returned to our TV screens on October 15, after a six-year hiatus. The brand brought back its iconic lingerie presentation and not only did it mark the runway return for many VS Angels—including Candice Swanepoel, Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Behati Prinsloo, Barbara Palvin, Doutzen Kroes, Jasmine Tookes and Josephine Skriver—but it also featured models from all walks of life.
