Mason, as he’s known, is a young guy from Randburg who is not just an ordinary youngin’, he’s one to learn from & trust, even I took a few pointers. Today he tells us about what makes him be CONGESTED & all his future plans.

I’m super excited to do this, I’ve obviously heard it all but please tell people about yourself.

Well like you said, I’m popularly known as Mason, but my name is Maso Mesatywa, born in the Eastern Cape – Umtata, Ekhwezi to be exact in 1992. I grew up in Pietermaritzburg & spent all my primary & high school life there. I then moved to Jo’burg in 2011 after matriculating, I didn’t attend varsity straight after that coz I was try’na figure out what I really wanted to do (took a long time I must say) but now I’m quite at that place, I have figured out what I want.

It’s really crazy coz most of the people (myself included) go straight to varsity then realize halfway through that what they are doing is not ideal, I applaud you for taking time out. so your’e here now in Randburg, are you loving the environment? is Jo’burg for you?

I love it, but I really wanna travel, I see myself in Cape Town, having a house there or London – which will happen in due time.

Mind if I come with? hahaha.

Are you currently enrolled anywhere? what are you doing currently?

I am a skater & a photographer, currently studying through VEGA, OK I’m a photographer in practice but in a few months I’m gonna be getting my certificates & stuff although I’m looking into advancing. I actually wanted to go into a design school & do both Photography & Fashion,but I couldn’t find that specific course, so i ended up going to VEGA for photography, but Fashion is my number one love, I can say that fashion best describes my outlook & when it comes to who I am, I can say my pictures do that for me. No one can really say they know who I am, who Mason is, except Sam & Asiphe (my best friends) but I plan to portray my personality through my pictures. 

I’m already thrilled about finding out who Mason is, Fashion & photography? that’s the best way of incorporating art.

I actually was very keen on this interview & was like “Whaat, I gotta enter that comp, I need to get this interview going” *chuckles* because of CONGESTED, my brand, I wanted to introduce Congested, this brand is gonna go a long way, as the population of the world grows each & every day, CONGESTED is gonna be relevant to it now until the day we die. it’s a state of being, even my kids will carry on it’s legacy – it will always be relevant, It’s the state of people living, living through the ups & downs, I’m gonna be building people. as individuals, you need to look deep inside your self, find out what part of you is CONGESTED, whether it’s the physical – maybe

you’re around a-lot of people you don’t like, be it how you grew up, the friendships you are keeping, the environment you’re living in, your emotions, whether the people hate you, it is a state of being after all, whatever situation you’re in- Just Hashtag this is CONGESTED. Nothing ever comes out easily like emotions, which counts like for a-lot – 90% of your living, NOT YOUR EXISTING, a-lot of people exist, they’re not living, the fact that you get your ups & downs which kinda contradicts each other, which is CONGESTED, you can’t be happy & sad at the same time, no one can actually be in the balance of happiness & sadness at the same time, you  can be happy for a moment & forget about your sadness but yet again you’ll be back to congested, which is the sadness. alot of people get creative when they’re happy, some when sad, it’s all a form of being CONGESTED, OK I’ve been goin’ on for a minute now, but in a nutshell what’s gonna make this brand live on is it’s relevance to the everyday life. 

Oh my goodness! you totally just took us to the future world & I speak for most people reading this, you are such a visionary, there’s quite a-lot of thought that obviously went through the branding & all of this creativity you have. I’m sure everyone will be looking out for CONGESTED, & using the Hashtag #CONGESTED daily to just express their life in all forms, Mason I get it & the world will too, ama-zing Idea.

Thank you, I honestly know that this is the deal, it will be big. haha!

I actually write, I’m a lyric writer- so that’s how congested actually came along, I was writing punch lines with something like “nested, they rested” BANG! it came to life, I was like hol’up I can make something out of that, make something happen, so I just put the word aside.

Hahaha you should teach other kids about creativity, if that’s not one of the greatest talents, I don’t know what could be. How long have you been working on this concept? sounds like you are really nurturing it.

I’ve been working on it for quite a while now, it’s just that it’s a thought process & writing stuff down – although I’m not on the practical side of it right now but I’ve posted some stuff on my page. I’m such an introspective person, I look in so much into my work before I post it out there coz eish I’m self conscious like that.

Your’e obviously an artist, & what you just said about being an introspective person is really important in artistry because people love seeing that you took your time planning, we don’t like inconsistency coz that’s what impulsiveness results in.

I know there’s other things that you do, please tell us more.

A-lot of stuff is coming, I do photography,visuals, I have a-lot of concept on my book that i scripted on, I have to just start shooting stuff, I wanted it to be a “BOOM”, not just like post a beautiful image now and then & be like “aah it’s a beautiful image” No, I wanna put depth into everything I do, coz CONGESTED- just like it sounds, is just so profound, it’s just a continuous saga, this is the idea of living. Although people might like or not like it later on & maybe be like “Uug, you fetching for dreams” I’ve had a great dream about CONGESTED, it’s something that’s out’a this life. it’s past, present & future, people might not find the brand name to be as attractive or trendy like your Ben Sherman, or Polo but it’s enough, it’s a REVOLUTION. 

Trust me, Unique is always trendy, no one wants to have what everyone else has, except for not creative, copy & paste people ofcoz. I’m really sold by this concept, it will definitely live on & while it does we will enjoy your art.

what are you really into? things that intrigue you?

Well as I said Fashion, Graphic Design, Video-graphy, Art Directing- I’m gonna go into that and alot of things in due time though, I’m just focusing on building congested right now & what makes Mason tick is just Photography.
