There are brands that sponsor cultural moments, and then there are brands that become part of the story. At the 130th edition of the HollywoodBets Durban July, Don Julio did exactly that—curating a seamless celebration of craftsmanship, fashion and modern luxury that reflected the evolving language of South African culture.
Set against the spectacle of Greyville Racecourse, this year’s Country Allure theme transformed one of Africa’s most celebrated lifestyle events into a showcase of couture, creativity and premium hospitality. Designers, celebrities, tastemakers and cultural leaders gathered to celebrate South African excellence, while a world-class entertainment line-up amplified the energy from day into night.
For Don Julio, the occasion was less about presence and more about purpose.
Craftsmanship Woven into Couture
The defining visual moment of Don Julio’s Durban July experience came through an exclusive collaboration between acclaimed couturier Orapeleng Modutle, actress and style icon Linda Mtoba, and television producer Teddy Geldart.
Created exclusively for the occasion, Modutle’s bespoke design embodied the elegance of Country Allure while showcasing the meticulous craftsmanship that has become synonymous with his work. Worn by Linda Mtoba, the couture masterpiece emerged as one of the day’s most memorable fashion statements—an expression of confidence, sophistication and contemporary African luxury.

The collaboration echoed the philosophy at the heart of Don Julio: that exceptional luxury is shaped through patience, artistry and an uncompromising pursuit of excellence.
“Every Don Julio partnership begins with intention,” says Cebisa Luzipho, Culture Manager for Don Julio South, West & Central Africa at Diageo. “We collaborate with creatives whose dedication to craftsmanship reflects the values upon which Don Julio was built. From The Don’s Table to the Durban July, we’re continuing a golden thread that celebrates artistry across disciplines, creating experiences that are authentic, culturally relevant and unmistakably luxurious.”
A Premium Tequila Experience
Beyond fashion, guests were invited to experience Don Julio through thoughtfully curated tasting moments that celebrated the artistry behind every bottle.
A particular spotlight fell on Don Julio Rosado, with premium sampling experiences and signature serves encouraging guests to explore tequila through a more refined lens. Rather than simply offering tastings, the activation highlighted craftsmanship, versatility and the role of premium spirits in elevating modern social occasions.
Throughout the day, expertly crafted cocktails became a natural extension of the Durban July experience, adding another layer to one of the weekend’s most talked-about luxury activations.

Where Culture, Music and Luxury Meet
The Hollywoodbets Durban July has evolved into far more than a horse racing event. It has become one of Africa’s defining cultural gatherings, where fashion, hospitality, music and entertainment converge.
This year’s programme reflected that evolution, with international performances from Bryson Tiller, Swae Lee and Masego alongside South African stars Cassper Nyovest, Elaine, Shekhinah and Tresor, creating an atmosphere that carried the celebration well beyond the racetrack.
Within this landscape, Don Julio positioned itself as a champion of South Africa’s creative economy—celebrating not only style but the artists, designers and cultural voices shaping the country’s luxury narrative.
An Invitation to Club 1942
As the final race concluded, the celebration continued behind closed doors at Club 1942, Don Julio’s invitation-only afterparty inspired by its iconic Don Julio 1942 expression.
Designed as an intimate gathering of creatives, celebrities, tastemakers and industry leaders, Club 1942 blended premium hospitality, world-class music and signature Don Julio cocktails into an evening that reflected the brand’s unmistakable attention to detail.
It was less an afterparty than an extension of the Don Julio experience—where meaningful connections, elevated design and modern luxury came together under one roof.
More Than a Moment
Following the success of The Don’s Table, which celebrated South Africa’s film and television industry, Don Julio’s Durban July presence marked another chapter in the brand’s growing investment in local creativity.

By placing craftsmanship at the centre of every experience—from couture and hospitality to culture and collaboration—Don Julio continues to redefine what premium brand storytelling looks like in South Africa.
At the 2026 Durban July, it wasn’t simply about showing up. It was about shaping the moment.
