On the other side of his loss and pain is Langa Mavuso’s soulful therapy and boldest sophomore album yet.
Johannesburg’s historic Market Theatre was transformed into something greater than a stage — it became a sanctuary. Presented in partnership with Stella Artois, the event drew an audience of industry leaders, media, culture contributors, family and devoted fans who turned out in style to witness a performance that will be remembered as one of the year’s cultural highlights.
A therapy couch sat in the spotlight, Stella Artois chalices sparkled in hand, and an audience of friends, family, and tastemakers leaned into the vulnerability of one of South Africa’s most emotive voices. Langa Mavuso had arrived, not just with new music, but with a journey — Therapy: The Other Side.

The evening played out as both a listening session and a live confessional. With film and media professional Pulane Mafatshe stepping into the role of “therapist,” Mavuso unpacked the stories behind each track. What emerged was an album that doesn’t just play — it speaks, questions, mourns, and ultimately heals.
It all begins with “Godspel” — the opening number that places Mavuso in conversation with his therapist. He questions why the love he believes is God-given keeps slipping away, pleading with heaven for guidance and strength. The song’s raw vulnerability set the tone for the night.

From there, he drifts into “Dreaming,” a haunting ode to the people he’s lost, blurring the line between memory and imagination. The atmosphere thickened with emotion, each lyric a brushstroke of grief and longing.
“Therapy: The Other Side’ is the most honest body of work I have ever created. It speaks to my younger self, my healing, and the parts of me that needed to be understood. To share it in this way, with people I love and respect in the room, felt like the truest way to bring it into the world.”

But Therapy is not without its fire. “Dangerous” (feat. Yanga Chief & King Perryy) lifted the room with Nigerian-inspired rhythms and an undeniable groove. “Your love is so dangerous,” Mavuso sang with conviction, while Yanga’s rap verses struck like lightning bolts in the middle of a storm.
Love then returned in its gentler form with “Ngiyazifela” (feat. Nkosazana Daughter) — a tender expression of devotion wrapped in lush harmonies. The crowd melted into its warmth.
“Mam’ Bhengu” (feat. Khuli Chana) brought edge and storytelling power, while “21 Again” (feat. Mia) carried a youthful innocence — a desire to relive moments untouched by the weight of loss.
Perhaps the most intimate stretch of the album unfolded with “Forrest,” a track drenched in delicate melodies and aching lyrics of distance, belief, and an unbreakable love dedicated to Mavuso’s late partner.

This sentiment reached its emotional peak with “You Live On,” a song penned by longtime collaborator Manana — performed live at the launch for the very first time. The room stilled, and then erupted, in what felt like collective catharsis.
As the therapy session reached its conclusion, Mavuso whispered a prayer in “Mama” — a childlike plea to return to the comfort of his mother after wrestling with loss, faith, and love. Finally, the album closed with “Hallelujah” (feat. Marcus Harvey & Sundile), a triumphant release that married gospel uplift with soulful artistry.
The launch was as theatrical as it was intimate, reflecting Stella Artois’ ethos of savoring life’s most meaningful connections. Familiar faces like Lloyiso, Nadia Nakai, and Sony Music Africa’s Matimba Gift Nkuna were seen in the audience, but the night wasn’t about celebrity spotting — it was about surrendering to the honesty of Mavuso’s craft.

“Therapy: The Other Side is the most honest body of work I have ever created,” Mavuso shared. “It speaks to my younger self, my healing, and the parts of me that needed to be understood.”
The crowd responded with a standing ovation — not just to the music, but to the bravery of an artist who dared to bare it all.
