Mahindra Fusion Fest 2026: Where Legends Met the Next Generation of Icons
South Africa’s creative pulse took centre stage this past weekend as Mahindra Fusion Fest returned bigger, bolder and more immersive than ever. The multi-disciplinary festival once again brought together music, fashion and visual art in a celebration of cultural expression — drawing thousands of fans, artists and creators into a shared space where established legends and emerging voices could collide.
What began as a bold cultural experiment in 2025 has rapidly evolved into a national creative platform — one that not only celebrates artistry but actively invests in the discovery of South Africa’s next generation of talent.
The 2026 edition reached its peak with a spectacular grand finale at SunBet Arena in Pretoria on Saturday, 7 March, marking the culmination of a nationwide build-up that began months earlier. From Cape Town to Durban and Johannesburg, Mahindra brought the Fusion Fest experience directly to young creatives through vibrant campus and cultural activations, building momentum across the country ahead of the final showcase.
Through these roadshows — alongside dealership-led initiatives — Mahindra opened the door for emerging musicians, artists and fashion designers to participate in a nationwide talent search. The goal was clear: position Fusion Fest not just as a stage for established performers, but as a launchpad for the next generation of creators shaping South Africa’s cultural landscape.
The response was overwhelming. Hundreds of entries poured in from aspiring creatives across the country, each hoping to earn their moment on the Fusion Fest stage. By the time the finale arrived in Pretoria, the SunBet Arena was filled with thousands of fans ready to witness a powerful celebration of culture, creativity and new icons in the
Rajesh Gupta, CEO of Mahindra South Africa highlighted that this year’s festival was designed to go beyond celebration and actively create opportunity for emerging creatives. Echoing this commitment, he noted that through a nationwide talent search — supported by Mahindra’s dealer network — the festival invited aspiring musicians, artists and fashion designers to showcase their talent, with winners receiving prize money and the opportunity to perform on a national stage.
The overwhelming response from young creators across the country, he added, reaffirmed the importance of platforms like Fusion Fest in opening doors for the next generation of South African talent.
The youthful vibrancy of the Rainbow Nation is something we experience every day across South Africa — in its music, fashion, art and the remarkable creativity of its people. Fusion Fest was created to celebrate exactly that spirit. Inspired by the shared philosophies of Ubuntu and Vasudeva Kutumbakam (the world is one family), the festival brings together diverse voices and artistic expressions on one platform, reflecting Mahindra’s belief that communities grow stronger when they come together.
“As Mahindra continues its journey in South Africa, initiatives such as this reflect our Rise philosophy in action — celebrating creativity, supporting communities and creating opportunities for the next generation to shine”
Rajesh Gupta, CEO of Mahindra South Africa.
The festival itself is part of the Mahindra Group’s global cultural outreach, an initiative through which the Group supports and celebrates art and culture across the world. Through its products, services and a strong commitment to corporate responsibility, the Mahindra Group has long sought to enable positive change in individuals and communities globally. Cultural outreach forms an important part of this journey — connecting with communities through specially created programmes that celebrate creativity, spark conversations across cultures and create meaningful impact.
These initiatives are not simply sponsorships. Each programme is designed with a strategic purpose — strengthening the connection between Mahindra and the communities it serves while nurturing the artistic ecosystems that define those communities.
Fusion Fest represents this philosophy in action.
2026: A Fusion of Legends and New Icons
The 2026 showcase featured four genre-defying musical fusions, paired with immersive fashion designs and cutting-edge visual art:
Rewind the Revolution: This nostalgic journey was led by Zoë Modiga and featured legends such as Mafikizolo, Kurt Darren and Claire Johnston, with fashion by Imprint and pop art by Shaun ‘Damn Vandal’ Oakley.
Hip Hop Most High: One of the most anticipated segments brought together a powerful Blend of hip hop and spiritual praise, featuring Blxckie, Maglera Doe Boy, and the Tshwane Gospel Choir. This was complemented by fashion from The Bam Collective and art by illustrator Ndumiso Nyoni.
Femme for All: The third Fusion celebrated “girl power” with Naledi Aphiwe, Karen Zoid, Nomfundo Moh, and Mariechan, set against immersive media art by Inka Kendzia.
All About Now: As a final crescendo, the production team created a contemporary Amapiano showcase featuring youth icons Zee Nxumalo, Focalistic, and Daliwonga, with fashion by Munkus and street art by Bushy Wopp.
Together We “Rise”
For the 2026 edition, Mahindra also launched a nationwide talent search for the most exciting emerging artists, musicians and fashion designers.
At the event, Thando Micky was revealed as the winner of the music competition. Mahindra also rewarded two runners-up with R10 000 each toward their professional careers. Additionally, the festival showcased the work of Andile Cele as the winning novice fashion designer and Anda Mncayi as the winning creative artist.
Driving the Future: The XUV 3XO Fusion Fest also showcased Mahindra’s evolving automotive identity through the Mahindra XUV 3XO, which continues to resonate strongly with a new generation of South Africans.
Adding to the excitement of the evening, Ntombhi Mkalipi from Pretoria drove away in a brand-new Mahindra XUV 3XO, awarded during the festival after participating in a nationwide Mahindra test-drive campaign.
As Mahindra moves into its third decade in South Africa — having established a strong localfootprint with over 100 000 customers and a significant assembly plant in Durban. Platforms like the Mahindra Fusion Fest reflect the company’s belief that brands must go beyond products to create meaningful connections with the communities they serve.
In that spirit, Fusion Fest stands as both a celebration of South African creativity and a powerful expression of Mahindra’s enduring belief that when cultures, ideas and people come together — Together We Rise.
