Major Lazer Return With New Music, New Member, and a Fresh Global Chapter

Major Lazer are back—bigger, bolder, and with a brand-new energy. The iconic, multi-platinum, diamond-charting collective—helmed by Diplo, Walshy Fire, and Ape Drums—has officially welcomed a fourth member: America Foster, a British-Jamaican artist and content creator whose humor, charisma, and genre-blurring creativity have already earned her a loyal following online.

The new lineup has arrived with a bang, dropping “GANGSTA”, the group’s first single of 2025. The track reunites Major Lazer with dancehall legend Busy Signal, who last collaborated with them on 2013’s salsa-dancehall classic “Watch Out For This (Bumaye).” Produced with Kybba, the Italy-raised, Amsterdam-based DJ behind the Basshall Movement, “GANGSTA” is pure Major Lazer—an explosive fusion of dancehall fire and futuristic dance sonics, laced with Busy Signal’s sharp-tongued badman bars.

Enter America Foster

Foster made her live debut with the group during four electrifying sets at Paris’s Fête de la Musique in June before formally announcing her role in July after Major Lazer’s headlining set at Austria’s Electric Love Festival.

“Major Lazer are back… and it looks like I’m the fourth member for the foreseeable future! Thank you Diplo, Walshy Fire, Ape Drums, Major Lazer for taking me under your wings! I love you guys dearly…” she wrote to fans on Instagram.

Raised between cultures and continents, Foster embodies the eclecticism Major Lazer has always stood for. Known for her sharp-witted freestyles, playful sketches, and fluid blend of sounds, she represents a fresh chapter in the collective’s ongoing mission to make the world smaller by making the party bigger.

“Coming back out now with America and Busy Signal feels like starting a new chapter while revisiting an old one,” says Diplo. “Busy Signal was a huge part of our journey on ‘Bumaye’ more than a decade ago. Now, with America joining the group, we’re building something new. While she’s not on this track as a vocalist, look out for her on some new music coming real soon.”

A Global Party That Doesn’t Stop

True to form, Major Lazer haven’t just returned with new music—they’re back with a vengeance on the road. This summer alone has seen them drop into unexpected spaces: from a wild Bronx bodega rave in July to their first London appearance in a decade at Notting Hill Carnival. Tonight, they’re capping off the “GANGSTA” release week with a secret Shoreditch performance alongside Busy Signal.

And they’re only getting started. This fall, the DJ collective will headline Goldrush Festival in Chandler, Arizona, before hitting campuses across the U.S. for a series of surprise pop-up shows. European and North American tour dates are also on the horizon, cementing the group’s status as one of the most unpredictable—and unmissable—acts in global dance music.

The Major Lazer Legacy Continues

Since their debut in 2009 with the genre-bending album Guns Don’t Kill People… Lazers Do, Major Lazer has evolved from a studio project into one of the world’s most influential live acts. Their catalogue boasts era-defining hits like the diamond-certified “Lean On”—still one of the most streamed songs of all time—alongside multi-platinum singles “Cold Water” and “Light It Up.”

With the addition of America Foster and a renewed focus on dancehall, reggae, and global sounds, Major Lazer is writing its next chapter without losing sight of its roots. For longtime fans and new listeners alike, 2025 promises to be the start of another unforgettable era.
